Facebook, Instagram and Threads down in ‘global outage’

Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are currently facing a widespread outage, with many users unable to access the platforms globally.

Users attempting to log onto the websites and apps are encountering error messages, preventing them from refreshing their feeds as usual. Additionally, some users have been automatically logged out of their accounts and are unable to log back in.

Why we care. If you are running campaigns on any of these platforms, reach is likely to be significantly lower than usual due to the widespread outage.

Global issue. The outage seems to be impacting numerous countries globally as indicated by more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and over 20,000 reports for Instagram on the Downdetector tracking website.

Areas impacted. Meta issued a statement, confirming major disruptions to ads creation and management, sharing and content management, as well as inboxes. The statement read:

  • “We are aware of an issue users are having logging into our platforms. Our engineering teams are aware and are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Timeline. The widespread outage appears to have started at approximately 10am ET on March 5.

What Meta is saying. Meta’s head of communications Andy Stone confirmed the issue on X, writing:

  • “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
